Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“What’s your favorite holiday and why?”
You know, I think mine might be a 4th of July, a Memorial Day.
Isn’t that weird? It’s. And here’s why. I mean, obviously, I love Thanksgiving because there’s a time of year where we’re grateful and that kind of thing. But one of my core values is freedom. And so kind of what we went through and the people that sacrifice for our freedom, that means a lot to me. I like I like Thanksgiving for what it stands for. I’m not sure I’m crazy about all the pomp and circumstance that goes along with it but it’s about getting together and reconnecting and that kind of thing.
The thing that’s important about holidays, though, is and this is the important thing I want to share with all of you and you probably didn’t mean this when you answered this question, but holidays are very specific to people.
Not all holidays are happy for some people. I have a client where they’re between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some bad things happened years ago, so they don’t really like it very much. So we need to be sensitive to what those things are in other people. We need to think through those things, consider those things so that we can be better.
Because if you’re like Marty, Christmas is a really positive thing. You’re like me, 4th of July. Memorial Day sort of triggers the core value that I have. So it means a lot to me, but might not mean the same thing to everybody. So remember, projecting anything that we believe on to another person and having an expectation or judgment that they feel the same way generally doesn’t work.
All right. Happy 4th of July. Merry Christmas. Take care.
