Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“Are there times when being right is wrong for the circumstances you find yourself in?”
I love this question. Listen to this question. Are there times when being right is wrong for the circumstances you find yourself in? Absolutely, yes. There are times when being right is wrong. I should get a t-shirt. Sometimes being right is wrong for the circumstances. Yes, I can be right and be wrong in the circumstances that I’m in. If somebody asks me if they look terrible in the outfit they’re wearing, and they do look terrible, and that would be right. It would be wrong to say it given my circumstances. If I have an opinion and I know I’m right, but it’s only going to create more tension, frustration, and argument in a group I’m in, yes.
If I am right, but share it in an environment that is going to hurt somebody’s feelings or distract from somebody’s soul then yes. Yes. Truth hurts. Sometimes it’s uncomfortable, but it should never hurt. The truth should never be hurtful or intentionally painful to somebody. It might not feel good, but we ought to tell it if it’s constructive and useful. Yes, there are times when being right could be wrong in the right circumstances. Yes, it can happen, so be careful. Right. Just because you’re right doesn’t mean you have to talk about it. Think about that the next time you post something on social media. Think about that the next time you get in an argument with a total stranger. Think about that. Right. Hope that was helpful.
