Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“Recently I’ve been facing considerable pressure in several areas of my life- a lot of people have. I’m a pretty stable, non-dramatic person, but lately I feel like I’m really negatively affected by all that’s going on around me. What suggestion do you have for managing the pressure?”
Good question. Turn off the noise. One of the big things that’s going on in the world is that there’s a lot of inbound stimulation, noise and craziness, and the more you expose yourself to that, the more difficult it’s going to be, so that’s the first suggestion I have.
Turn off the noise, I mean literal noise. Turn off your TV, don’t watch the news, turn down the radio, don’t listen to gossip, don’t engage in negativity, those kinds of things because what happens is your circumstances get exacerbated by the amount of noise that is created in your life, and that noise then increases pressure because it triggers that fight or flight thing in your head. I want you to turn down the noise, reduce stimulation for things you have no control over, drama, et cetera and then focus on the things where you have control.
The most obvious thing I can tell you is get a little exercise, do some physical movement, that kind of thing, very important.
Hope that was helpful.
