Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you.
“I have a coach. I like her a lot. She is smart and helpful. I am not making any progress, however, and it’s 100% my fault. I am clear about what I need to do, but I don’t do it. My tendency is to quite getting coaching because it does not appear that I am capable of doing what I’m supposed to do. What’s my problem?”
Well, your first problem is believing that you just can’t get it done. It’s believing that there’s some flaw in you. This is not a flaw. I coach a lot of people. I coach some people who make a ton of progress. I coach some people who don’t make a lot of progress. I believe it’s ‘no win before its time’. You don’t take the wine out of the barrel too soon, so you might not be ready. I believe when you’re ready, you make the change.
But I’m going to encourage you to do this if you are my client. I would say you need to have that conversation with me as your coach. The issue is something that you and your coach need to work on. Don’t worry about the progress, Worry about why you’re stuck and ask your coach. She appears to be competent. She appears to be good to help you work through what the obstacles are. They’re either mental, emotional, or spiritual. And if you can start chipping away at that and redefining what progress looks like, I think it’ll help.
In all cases, do not quit. Whatever you do, do not quit.
Can you tell? Hope that answer was helpful.
