Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“Is it just me or does the world seem like it’s crazier and people are more angry?”
Yes, it seems like it’s crazier and people are more angry. I will tell you, I say this all the time, I probably spend 80% to 90% of my time dealing with the psychological and sociological stressors of what’s happening in the world. Yes, the world is– I don’t know if the world’s crazier, but there’s more coming at us all the time than has ever come at us before and we need to pay attention to that.
The best way to deal with an angrier, crazier world is to disengage from those who appear angrier and crazier, and then to manage our own anger and craziness. For instance, never get angry at a person for being angry. Never get crazy at a person for being crazy because that just adds fuel to the fire. Sometimes the best thing you can do is disengage from the thing that you are trying to disengage from or that is affecting you that is angrier or crazier. I will tell you that I was in a restaurant recently and the server spilled some barbecue sauce on this guy’s t-shirt.
He was a total jerk about it. It was obviously a mistake. Now, I will say that he rebounded from it nicely and he handled it better after he lost his mind over the barbecue sauce on his brand new thirsty shirt. I think we’re seeing more and more of that. The best way you can cope with that, the best way you can deal with that, is to deal with it from your own consciousness and the way you show up and your behavior because your behavior can be contagious as well. Yes, the world’s angrier. Yes, the world seems to be crazier right now. Yes, there’s a lot of conflict. I think social media contributes to that.
Let’s manage our own behavior in service of trying to diffuse that. Take care.
