Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“I’m trying to remember the three keys of focus you talk about. I think they are growth and some other two, please remind me. And do they apply to any industry?”
The answer is yes, they apply to any industry. The other two are culture and people.
So growth is the extent to which you are focused on scaling the business – getting more clients, taking care of more clients, developing integration strategies, helping clients scale, doing what you do to help clients growth. And by the way, employees grow as well, so that’s the people part.
It’s sort of a triangle. First we’re looking at growing the business, or are we doing the things necessary to grow the business? The second thing we’re doing is are we helping our people grow? Are we providing education opportunities for them? Are we coaching them up? Are we doing the things necessary to help them live better lives and become better at their profession, the things that they do?
And then the third one where I say people, growth, culture… culture is the third one, and that is about are we building a place to work where people enjoy it, where people are involved more, where people have more access? Is the culture really a priority for us?
We actually did the research on people, culture, and growth, and we found that the CEOS that we work with, our focus groups, and the 300 some sample size from across the country tended to agree that people, culture, and growth matters.
And you as a viewer probably have a bias over one of those. You might like developing people more than you like culture, more than you like growth. What we learned was the intersection of those three and equal application of those three builds more stability in the business and helps you do the things necessary. By the way, the same things work in your relationships – if you’re committed to helping each other grow and expand and extend yourself for the spiritual, mental, emotional and psychological growth of your parter, your relationships are going to do well. If you’re looking to build a culture in your relationship where you support, love and care about each other and create a space for each other to thrive, its going to work as well.
So those are the three. I hope that clarifies it.
I hope that’s helpful, take care.
