Hi everybody, this is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Only… this week I’m not going to be answering a question because it’s my special annual Thanksgiving Mondays with Mike!
This week I wanted to take a minute to extend my heartfelt wishes for you during this period of time, American Thanksgiving. I want to wish each and every one of you a Happy Thanksgiving, but more importantly, what I want to do this week on Mondays with Mike is to share with you again how powerful gratitude is.
Recently I was on a coaching call with a gentleman who was struggling with what is this notion of gratitude. He knew what gratitude was, but he said “Mike, it’s not having an impact in my life and you keep saying that gratitude has an impact…” So I asked him what he does. Every day he sits still and thinks about all the things he’s grateful for. Which, I told him, is exactly the problem. It isn’t about thinking about the things you’re grateful for, it’s about experiencing gratitude in your heart. It’s about having the courage to be vulnerable enough to experience what gratitude feels like when you allow it to fill you up.
So, what I want to encourage you to do amidst this unprecedentedly difficult year is to think through how you can more be more vulnerable in experiencing those things you’re grateful for. It’s going to take some of you a little bit of work! It’s going to take me a little bit of work to discover and uncover the things that I’m profoundly grateful for. But that is our challenge this week and every day. If you take three minutes every single morning to express and think about gratitude and to feel grateful in a way that you really haven’t experienced, that has a direct impact on your mental and emotional health. Did you know that it actually makes your brain function better?
Lastly, I just want to share with you that I’m grateful for you. I’m grateful for you taking the time to watch this, many of you have been loyal listeners and watchers of Mondays with Mike for years. We are really, really appreciative of that. So, Happy Thanksgiving to you, your families, your friends. And this year I encourage you to spend the time necessary to be vulnerable enough to feel what it feels like when you just sit still and allow gratitude to wash over you.
Until next time, take care.
