Hi, everybody. I’m Mike Staver. This is Mondays with Mike, a weekly video series where I answer questions from people just like you. Here’s this week’s question.
“I lack the motivation I once had for the role I find myself in. I’m largely going through the motions. I’m a mid-level leader in my company and I wonder if I’m burned out or what the deal is. What do you suggest I do to uncover the issue?”
It is possible that you’re burnt out. I’m not saying you are or you aren’t, but it is possible when you find that the role that you’re in no longer juices you, no longer gets you moving.
There are three questions I want you to ask yourself.
Number one, are you focusing on things that actively and honestly move your roles forward? Are you creating or finding challenges in front of you every single day?
Number two, have you gone to your boss, supervisor or colleague and said, You know, I’m not feeling it. I need something else to challenge me. And I’m assuming that you’re performing at an acceptable level
and you’re doing really well. So go to your boss and say, I need to expand my horizons. I need to do a little bit more.
And then three. The third thing is do an inventory about whether or not you’re doing the kind of self-care
that allows you to be motivated. Are you getting enough rest? Are you doing things like you heard in a recent Mondays with Mike that Marty and I talked about, about meditation and getting your day off to the right start? And do you have balance outside of work? That is very, very important.
I hope that’s helpful!
